Ok, sometimes Gouda may appear as if he has half a brain cell working overtime to keep him afloat but we think he’s just differently motivated. He’s a Great Pyrenees (or mix) who we got out of the shelter when he was cleared for euthanasia. We have fallen in love with these giant protective polar bears in recent years and may try to rescue one at a time as we have space (they are everywhere!!). Gouda has one goal in his lifetime and that’s to be your best friend. He wants cuddles and walks happily at your side. He is a goofy goober with a heart of gold, good with other dogs and non-reactive to cats. He’s about 2 years old and will be somewhere near 85-90 pounds or more when at full weight. When considering a Great Pyrenees, (or at least this one) please note that everything you own will be covered with white fur, he isn’t bothered by any weather so all mud puddles are fair game, he wants snuggles all of the time, he won’t start a fight with another dog but he won’t back down if they do, and he will bark at a leaf if he feels it’s invading his yard. He doesn’t need a ton of exercise but structure would be an excellent idea because he’ll have the decision making skills of a preteen on pixie sticks if left to his own devices. Gouda doesn’t need a farm or livestock to guard but he’ll need someone that understands he isn’t an oversized golden retriever and can appreciate who he is in all his glory. If you love a Great Pyrenees then you know how amazing these dogs are but they may not be for everyone. Gouda is definitely one of the good ones and that’s how he got his name…because he’s a Goud-a boy!
