Cookie is a 10-year-old, 8-9 pound Chihuahua who hasn't had a good life. She was originally rescued as a young dog from an animal shelter, with a fear of almost everything. We worked on socializing Cookie to the world around her, and we ultimately placed her with a man who was a good owner in the short term, until she jumped out of his arms one day and broke her leg. Then he brought her back to us. Chihuahua legs resemble toothpicks and aren't really possible to repair very well with hardware, so her leg was splinted and finally healed pretty well, so she is able to use it without a limp. At about age 8 we placed Cookie again with a senior couple who, two years later (as of mid-October, 2026) were both forced to leave their home due to disabilities that make them unable to care for this tiny dog. If she is fortunate enough to have another home (remember that Chihuahuas typically live a long time), it should be with a woman, as she has a noticeable fear of men.
